Artist's Statement

Picture
Coming soon...Mosaics that portray the best features of our country.
Picture
For the next four years, my art will be focused on two themes:
  1. SHOWING how great America (already) is by creating mosaics that show the best features of our country, and
  2. PROTESTING the current Trump administration: Against all the havoc it has already wreaked on our country (and its global reputation) and on the future destruction Trump and his cronies will incur on the lives of "we the people."
To Be Involved
  • Subscribe to my quarterly newsletter to hear about shows and exhibits and how other artists are using their craft to show what's BEST about America and to decry what's being done by the current administration. It's shameful.

My Mosaics (2025 onward)

Andrea Edmundson, PhD Artist and Activist
COMING SOON!
First, I will have a collection of mosaics that show the best features of our country. Then, I will also create mosaics that protest all that the Trump administration is doing to our country.
YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS - Take action, please.
I invite my fellow artists to share their works with me. I will create a new page to post them.

My Mosaics (Pre-Trump)

The styles below represent the mosaics I created with recycled, reclaimed, and re-purposed materials - During happier times!

Mosaic Paintings

These are the types of mosaics I taught at the Art Institute of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.

Tapestry Style Mosaics

The classes below are the types of mosaics I taught at Blue Raven Art School.

With Open Mind
This method was  popularized by Laurel Skye. However, my twist is that instead of using gems, crystals, and other valuable materials, I used broken jewelry, found items, metal scraps, and  discarded bling. The original style has fringe to resemble a Rajasthani tapestry, but I've created some without it. I hope you enjoy these - to me, they are addictive.

Mosaics on Glass

Ocean Asperitas
I discovered that architectural design firms discard their glass samples when they are out of style. So, I created mosaics on this high quality, shatter-proof glass. Most of these finished pieces rest on tripods so they catch the light from behind them.

Mosaics on Wood and Foam Board

The majority of my original mosaics were done on reclaimed wood.  However, size and weight led me to create mosaics on foam-core boards like Wedi and Skeew: Strong but lightweight.

I use discarded art glass (scraps that are too small for professionals to use) and other found and reclaimed materials to create these designs. I like to mount these mosaics onto unusual items or materials, like aluminum, instead of framing them. More character!

Functional Mosaics

Don't be afraid to USE mosaic art: Tables, vases, trivets, stepping stones, wine cabinets, even soap dishes! Having a function justifies buying it, right?

Multi-Dimensional Mosaics

Jewel Tones
These are mosaic works that do not hang on the wall like traditional two-dimensional visual art. They are mosaics in all shapes and forms, simply for the enjoyment of looking at them.

Classroom Pieces

I taught a LOT of classes - mostly at Blue Raven Art School and the Art Institute of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum - so I created many smaller mosaics in different styles.
