Mosaics 3A-Tapestry Method-Beginner (JAN 8 and 15, mornings)
FRIDAYS, JAN 8 (Part 1, 9am - noon) and JAN 15 (Part 2, 9am - noon).
Do you have interesting 'bling' that would look great in a mosaic, but it's too intricate or delicate to withstand grouting?
In this class, you create a traditional fringed tapestry-style mosaic wall hanging on MDF, applying fringe and 'bling' with regular thinset.
You learn how to:
- Create a pattern from your materials
- Mix and color regular thin set
- Use palette knives and thin set to embed different shapes of tesserae
STUDENTS BRING: Your own bling (about 2-4 cups or baggies) like broken jewelry, gems, chains, anything metal (belt buckles, buttons, watch parts, small gears, etc.), and beads, colored glass, etc., but no plastic.
This class is suitable for beginner students or for any mosaic artist that wants to try a new technique. Registration fee includes instruction, use of tools, a substrate, and adhesives. The instructor will send a reminder email in the week before class.
