Mosaic Paintings of the Desert (9/15-10/13, mornings)
This class is offered by The Art Institute, Arizona Sonora Desert Museum (ASDM)

Are you calmed and refreshed by the desert? You can harness and preserve those feelings with a desert-themed mosaic. In this class, you will create an 8"x10" mosaic that looks like a painting from nature, using the double-direct method of mosaics with art glass on wood and a non-toxic adhesive. Mosaic artist Andrea Edmundson will show you how to create unique "brush strokes" with art glass. Students will learn how to prepare their substrates, cut and nip glass, use a photo from nature, apply tesserae, and how to grout and finish their pieces. Tools, art glass, and safety equipment are provided.
No open-toed shoes or open beverage containers. Note, too, that glass cutting and nipping requires considerable hand strength. Aprons are recommended. Students must use their own photos, (or copyright-free ones or have written permission to use someone else’s).
This class consists of five 3-hour sessions.
Masks are required in all indoor areas whether someone is vaccinated or not.
Andrea Edmundson is an artist that has endured many unproductive or poorly organized art and crafts classes. She understands what students need to be motivated and how they prefer to develop their artistic skills. “Being an effective instructor doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice artistic inspiration; it just means you need to know how to reach your adult learners.”
REGISTRATION will be with the ASDM Art Institute, NOT on this website.
