Workshop-Intentional Mosaic with Clear Art Glass (AUG 13 and 27, mornings)
FRIDAYS, AUG 13 (Part 1, 9am-noon) and AUG 27 (Part 2, 9 am-noon)
NOTE: Part 2 is two weeks later because I have jury duty the week of Aug. 16.
In this 2-session workshop, you will create an INTENTIONAL painted or multimedia design/collage on a wooden substrate and then apply clear and/or colored art glass tesserae over the design to enhance the image. By "intentional" I mean that you create a recognizable design (like a flower) versus abstract, like we did in the previous version of this class.
You learn to:
- Create a painted or mixed media substrate
- Use a technique similar to using tempered glass (WATCH THIS VIDEO)
- Apply clear textured tesserae with clear adhesives (MAC glue and Lexel) – a good way to use up clear art glass and learn to use new glues
- Grout with colored grout, if desired
This class is for INTERMEDIATE or ADVANCED mosaic artists - those who already know how to cut and nip glass. Experience with collage is helpful. Registration fee includes instruction, use of tools, an MDF substrate, clear art glass scraps, and appropriate adhesives.
STUDENTS BRING: You will bring materials needed to make a colorful design (paints, pictures, stickers, etc. plus acrylic paints of your choice and paint brushes as needed), plus any glass tesserae you'd like to use. The instructor will send an email in the week before class with a list of suggested materials for your design. REMEMBER: You can paint your design or use collage-like materials but they must be flat (no cloth or fibers). You WILL have homework between the two sessions, so you will likely need glass cutting tools at home.
Two sessions; total class time 6 hours.
LIMITED to 6 participants. This is a one-time only workshop. Minimum age 18.
Class taught at Blue Raven Art School (720 E Prince Rd).
Class and workshop registration fees are non-refundable. If you miss a class, you can take another of the same value within 3 months of the original one or give it to someone else. However, you need to send me an email to make these changes.
